Executive Office
Agencies
1. Council of Economic Advisers
Formulates and recommends "national economic policy to
promote employment, production, and purchasing power under free
competitive enterprise." Also analyzes economic developments.
Chaired by Martin N. Baily.
2. Council on Environmental Quality
Advises and assists the president on national and international
policies relating to the environment as well as on proposed
legislation. Chaired by George T. Frampton
3. National Economic Council
Coordinates the "economic policy-making process with respect
to domestic and international economic issues." Gene B.
Sperling serves as Director.
4. National Security Council
The president's "principal forum for considering national
security and foreign policy matters with his senior national
security advisors and cabinet officials." Samuel R. Berger
serves as Assistant to the President for National Security
Affairs.
5. Office of Administration
"Provides administrative support services to all units
within the Executive Office of the President."
6. Office of Management and Budget
Assists "the President in overseeing the preparation of the
Federal budget and to supervise its administration in Executive
Branch agencies." It also helps formulate spending plans and
sets funding priorities. Jacob J. Lew serves as Director.
7. Office of National AIDS Policy
Working with community-based and national organizations, the
office provides "broad policy guidance and leadership on the
Federal government's response to the AIDS epidemic." Sandra
L. Thurman serves as Director.
8. Office of National Drug Control Policy
Establishes "policies, priorities, and objectives for the
Nation's drug control program," which seeks to "reduce
illicit drug use, manufacturing, and trafficking; drug-related
crime and...health consequences. Barry R. McCaffrey serves as
Director.
9. Office of Science and Technology Policy
Provides policy advice, coordinates science and technology
investment, and seeks to advance "fundamental science,
education and scientific literacy, investment in applied research,
and international cooperation." Neal F. Lane serves as
Director.
10. Office of Women's Initiatives and Outreach
Serves as a "liaison between the White House and women's
organizations, listening to women's concerns and proposals and
bringing these ideas to the President and others in the
Administration." Lauren Supina serves as Director.
11. Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board
"Provides advice to the President concerning the quality and
adequacy of intelligence collection, of analysis and estimates,
of counterintelligence, and of other intelligence activities."
Chaired by Warren B. Rudman.
12. United States Trade Representative
"Responsible for developing and coordinating U.S.
international trade, commodity, and direct investment policy, and
leading or directing negotiations with other countries on such
matters."
